France has granted Burkina Faso 1.5billion francs CFA for a project to fight insecurity, official sources in Ouagadougou said on Wednesday.

The project dubbed "Security of citizens in Burkina Faso" is estimated at 2.9 billion francs CFA.

But apparently, it only concerns the nation’s safety.

France's contribution would help equip 13 barracks and train a new division of the border police and search units.

The internal security attaché of the French Embassy in Burkina Faso, Joël Séré, said the grant would be available as early as February 2008.
